What to say and what not to say?

by Nina on March 12, 2009

I’m working in the city this week. I’ve met my City Parents for dinner and invitation meeting at Paper-Source. Yesterday, I had a lunch meeting with an old friend which led to an intense brainstorming session. It was the perfect cure for the Winter blues that have taken over the city. {Tuesday it was no-coat-necessary weather, Wednesday is was in the low 30s and today I saw snow} Along with a load of creative thoughts and visions for success… we enjoyed the best hamburger in town… The Black Angus Burger on a pretzel bun at Rockit Bar & Grill. Everyone should know by now that a good piece of red meat is one of my weaknesses… and the Rockit burgers are melt-in-your-mouth goodness… I almost want to swing by today and have another!

I’m enjoying my time at my second home… Casa Cogski.  Yesterday, Jenna and I woke up extra early so we could take in each other’s company over a cup of coffee (or two) and then with our flexible schedules we were able to fit in a trip to Einstein for a bagel and coffee earlier today. Our conversations are the best…. we chat about the topic at hand and after everything I say, Jenna follows with an…  ”Oh Neeenah!”

She is truly the best! There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of Jenna and what she would say about what I was thinking, saying or doing. The Oh Neeenah is a thought that pops up pretty frequently. I am so grateful to have her (and now Mr. Cogski aka Smulski) in my life.

{Detail Note} You should have seen us in Einstein this morning… Matching black North Face jackets and each in black workout pants and running shoes… people must shake their heads as we walk by. I love it!

*We don’t always match when we are together!? It’s the only picture I could find in my Web Albums of just the two of us.

Right to left: me, Smulski, Jenna, Andrea and Ian

Since I’m working with limited sources for pictures…. I’ll take the opp to wish Ian and my Annie a very Happy One-Year Anniversary!!! We’ll be anxiously awaiting a full recap from Miami, you two! Next stop for this crew… The Derby.

Before I leave you for the day, I’m going to leave you with this question…

What to say and what not to say on a first date?

*The best answer might or might not be rewarded with a prize.

Are we supposed to answer the question here?

Because, once – on a first date the guy told me he had a sexual appetite like his last name suggested (his last name was Wolfe). Then he proceeded to howl.

Awesome.

What NOT to say on a first date– anything about exes, sex, marriage, children, religion or politics! I think that pretty much covers it! :)

I have the burger down on my “things to do” list when I’m in town… yum! You should know that I was wearing the exact same outfit here in Texas this morning. People probably think it’s all I own.

Here are some SAD but TRUE questions that men have posed to me on first dates. I strongly suggest that men steer clear of these!

“On a scale of one to ten, how attracted are you to me right now”?

“What is your I.Q.”?

“How long was your last relationship”?

i’m going to go with if your having dinner at a mexican restaurant:

“I have a poem for you: beans, beans, good for your heart. the more you eat them, the more you (insert snarky laughter here) ”

:)

if one of your girl-friends has hooked up with the guy in the past and was a drama-queen over how she ended it (it being a one-time hook-up) with him, don’t ever refer to her as “your girlfriend” to him, even if you both *think* it’s funny

What not to say: “When I get married, I think I want ‘this or that’ for my wedding.” haha – or anything about your horrible last boyfriend ;-)

What to say: Anything that can be described as “totally being yourself” cause “that” person is why he asked you out in the first place!!

I think that the fact that you will chow down on some red meat and not eat a salad will make any man happy. no one likes a paris hilton on a date. What not to talk about.. honey you talk about whatever you want, but I wouldn’t talk about boils, zits, body odor.. you know all that really gross stuff. But I would tell them I am taking Pole Dancing lessons. that is always a good shocker ;) xo

I agree with Landlocked Mermaid above…guys do like girls that can chow down on things other than a salad. As for what to say/what not to say, I’m going to let your other readers give you tips because clearly I am the LAST person who should be giving out any type of dating advice!

Talk about your interests, things you like to do, where your from, etc. Keep it light and upbeat!

Don’t talk about exs, money, or anything too negative.

what to talk about – anything upbeat and positive that helps you find a good connection!

what not to talk about – exes, anything negative, any kind of personal hygiene!

How about I think I am ready to start a family! :) Or anything that starts with “my ex”!

But really, I had to say that you were oh about 1 block away from my office when at Rockit!
