We had a busy week…

by Nina on September 25, 2010

Monday night JH and I had cereal for dinner. We watched the second half of Dancing with the Stars while JH worked on the computer and I read final chapters of The Help. I’m not committing to DWTS this season, I might watch an episode here and there but I’m not even sure I’m going to record it on my DVR. If I do, it will be for Jennifer Grey! Yes, I did get weepy when she starting crying remembering Patrick Swayze. What can I say, I’m a weeper!

I FINALLY finished the book during lunch on Tuesday. I highly recommend this book. It was SO good! Take my advice and make yourself read the first 50 – 60 pages the first time you open the book. I did not and it took me FOREVER to get into the book. I think I read one page every other day for 120 days. No lie.

Tuesday night we went to The Rose’s for dinner. The P-Man and I had a little iPhone4 photoshoot for dessert! P thought it was pretty cool we could see ourselves in the phone. We had a great time and dinner was extra yummy… Mandy made stuffed chicken breasts, twice-baked potato casserole {I’m pretty sure that’s what that was!} and long green beans! We ate SO much that no one wanted to even think about eating the mini carrot cakes I baked all day bought at Kroger. I’m not really into baking and especially not when I work all day. I’m more of a “dash of this – 3 shakes of that” kinda gal! And that doesn’t work so well when it comes to baking so I leave the sweet treats to Kiks!!

He is such a ham! Of course, I know nothing about that ;)

My super-talented and lovely Grandmother made me another darling dress — ruffles, ruffles, ruffles. It fits great and we’re already discussing a wool-blend version with sleeves for Winter. Sounds cute, huh!?

Wednesday night I had a committee meeting with a few ladies. We are the new planning committee for a annual charity ball in our town to raise funds for economic development and the food pantry. I’m very excited about helping our community, planning the event and the extra girl time too!

Thursday night my mom and sister were finally back home for the weekend – my mother normally has class on Thursday nights {she’s in culinary school – for any new readers} and my sister goes to school 7 hours away. Since we don’t get to see each other as often as we used to, we made a quick trip to Dillards and grabbed dinner out at our favorite Asian restaurant! Our baby brother {almost 21 years old} and his roommate joined too. It was a lot of fun to hear Eric talk about living in his new apartment close to campus and the simply pleasures of being 21!

My mom came over after dinner {while the college kids “hung out”} to watch the Grey’s Anatomy Season Premiere. I have to say I thought it was quite lame. I had to cover my eyes during the face surgery and post-op. Those scenes could easily make someone have nightmares for a week. Too many flash-backs and I hate that Meredith and Derek don’t communicate. It bothers me to no end. I know it’s just a television show but seriously.

Communication isn’t always a piece of cake but in the end your relationship is stronger because everything is out on the table.

Friday night we hung out at my parents house. My mother made a pot of homemade vegetable soup {with grilled cheese sandwiches} and it was DELISH! Perfect start to a weekend full of Fall weather. It was 53 degrees when I woke up this morning. Get the fleece out!

As I sit here with my coffee to my left and a to-do a mile long to my right, it’s time for me to get up and get going. The floors are already vacuumed and steamed but the bathroom and kitchen need cleaned. And my bocce-playing husband is in a big tournament today so I need to get to the courts to cheer him on!

So here’s to Saturday. Good love. Good friends. Good weather. Good food. And Good fun.

NIna I love the dress that your Grandmother made for you. Where is she getting the cute patterns? I love that and I sew and would love to make one for myself.

I need to take your advice about The Help. I read about 20 pages and was interested but not addicted, but I want to be – nothing better than being in love with a good book and not wanting to put it down!

53 degress? Oh, that sounds heavenly right now. Though it’s been so long since I’ve felt 53 degrees that my Florida weather blood would probably freeze in my veins!

P.S. – Thanks for answering my question about the Michele watch in the last post. See, it doesn’t look too big on you in this picture. It looks great – especially with that beautiful dress your Gma made! Ok, I’ve decided that I’m getting one! :)
