What a lovely duet!

by Nina on April 5, 2010

We would like to introduce to you the newest addition to our new abode (my future abode, I’m not moving in until after the wedding)……

The Whirlpool Duet will be making nightly performances for many years to come!

Do you have a front-loader washer & dryer? Do you have any tips for us? Parents with front-loaders, do your kids do their own laundry since it’s easy to reach?

Love these! The preppy boyfriends mother has them and she says they’re wonderful!

I can’t wait to see pictures of your new home! Are you so excited? Nervous?

I never thought I would say this about an appliance, especially a washer/dryer….but they are GORGEOUS! So excited for you!

You will love them!!! My advice is leave the washer door open so the inside stays dry – it’ll keep your washer from getting icky smelling. Unfortunately, my children (ages 2 and 4) do not do their own laundry. Boo. They do love to open and close the doors of the washer/dryer though.

I love my front-loaders! One good tip is to keep the washer door open, because if not sometimes there will be a mildew smell.

We have one and it totally rocks. My husband did read though that you have to wipe down the washer after the last use on the door and under the rubber which seals the door shut because it can get moldy with the water that collects there. And then leave the door open for a few days so it can dry out. It’s really not a big deal and totally worth it. Enjoy!

I agree on leaving the washer door open. I also wipe down the rubber seals with white vinegar. We have had ours for 5 years now and no problems so it really does help. Enjoy your new set they are so pretty.

Nina, those are AMAZING! Huge congratulations. One question- what are those 2 mini tower things on either side? I can’t seem to figure out what they are :)

xoxo!

I have GE front loaders, in red, and I adore them. I agree with leaving the door open. Another thing I had to do though was put a blanket on top of them. Since they are flat on top, they seem to be the perfect resting ground for a lot of the hubs stuff. I didn’t want them to get all scratched and look junky, so I put a fleece throw on top. The cats adore sleeping on the fleece while the dryer runs haha.

We bought front loaders with some of our wedding money. We love them. I think I love them the most because my husband loves them so much he does all of the laundry. That’s right, ALL of the laundry! For now anyway…

Congrats on the purchase…definitely one you won’t regret! :)

I love the color! Definitely wipe down door and the plastic seal- water pools in mine after every wash. I also do a load with no clothes, cold water and 1/2 cup white vinegar once or twice per week. I think this helps a lot with the mildew problem a lot of people have. Enjoy! You’ll want to do laundry all the time. :-)

We have the red LG models – the first purchase in 20 years that my husband had to talk me into! All I could think was that in time we would say (about the red): “What WERE we thinking?” I do love them, however. We did the laundry room in a matching red check/toile with a black & white tile floor. Looks great – I just hope my kids don’t eventually think we have the “avocado kitchen” of the 21st century!

We have front-loaders and I love them. Like the others mentioned, you do have to watch out for the moldy smell in the washer, just keep the door open and whipe it down. It’s actually easy for Walker to access, but where you actually put the washing detergent in, it’s too high for him to get too. I also keep a wicker basket on top of the washer that I slide right under the door and just pull the clothes out. I also keep a smaller wicker basket on top of the dryer for random socks, then we play the sock match game about once a month and we see who gets the most matches between Mike, Walker and myself. Gets everyone into it!

I have frontloaders and I love them! The best part is the storage underneath so you don’t have to have all your detergent sitting out. My tip is just to make sure you get the detergent specifically for frontloaders or high efficiency.

I love my front loaders! Yes, the moldy smell is a problem. I put vinegar in the rinse cycle which both helps with our hard water issues and helps keep that mold smell at bay. Socks tend to fall into the gap between the drum and the seal, so I recommend a sock bag.

Love the front loaders…as one reader above said, either get special detergent for front loaders or you can use about half the detergent suggested and dilute with water. When I was putting in the whole amount of soap, it was not rinsing off completely…Also, make sure you do keep the door open after washes and scrub down with vinegar or some kind of cleaning wipe. The storage is fantastic…I have enough room to keep all detergent, dryer sheets, etc….plus I keep all kinds of other things (boots, towels, etc).

Hey just saw on twitter that you are looking for pink pattered socks. What shade of pink are you looking for? I just came across these light pink ones at Brooks Brothers:

There is also another link I have somewhere that I came across while helping my sister plan her wedding. It had almost ever color imaginable for socks. I will see if I can find it. Congrats by the way!

We have front loaders (Whirlpool Duet). Just white though. These look like a nice color. I second the other comments re: water collecting in the seal if you are not careful to wipe each time.
