Update

by Nina on April 3, 2007

Dear Friends & Family,

It’s a very dark and rainy day here in the city. I wore my new kiwi green colored sweater (that my mother bought me over the weekend) to brighten up my day! While I enjoy the last few sips of my skim-latte, I thought I would write a few lines.

I spent the past weekend at parent’s house. We had a wonderful time! I took the 8:30 pm flight out of Marion on Friday night – We landed in Marion a little before 10. Can’t beat that! Woke up bright and early on Saturday and my mother and I stopped at the little coffee shop for our morning coffee before heading even more south for some much needed bargain shopping. We were back right in time to stop by Aunt Tammy and Uncle John’s for Aaron’s 2nd Birthday. It was great to see the rest of the family. I do miss them very much! Cousins Tom, Kelly and Logan joined us at my parents for dinner off the grill. Logan entertained us until late into the night. Logan had a big night, Kel said he slept until 10:00 am on Sunday.

Sunday, I had the pleasure of celebrating my Aunt Dorothy’s 96th Birthday with her. The whole family sans a few that are off at college had lunch at Aunt Dorothy’s favorite restaurant, Hunan. Even though it was her birthday, she insisted on paying the bill! We just love her so much and can’t wait to celebrate 97! She was most excited that the Cardinals opening day landed on her birthday this year. Aunt Dorothy is a life-long Cards fan! She’s hoping for a repeat World Series Championship.

What do you think about when you hear the number 96?
Most likely, you are not thinking about your age. Recently, I’ve been thinking a lot of about life – where I am, where I’m going, where I’ll be in 10 years (I hate that question), what is God’s intentions for me, how can I achieve maximum success, where should I be going with my career… All very normal questions, especially for someone at the age of 26. Then I find myself celebrating a 96th birthday with my Aunt. She so proudly said to the waiter, “I’m 96 today and this is my family.” In that moment, I realized everything will happen in its own time. I will eventually find a job that I love, I will find my soul mate, I will buy a house, I will have children, I will travel to South Africa… Just enjoy today and tomorrow and the day after tomorrow and take risks for what you believe in and continue to grow as the individual you are and the person you want to be.

My mom sent me a Daily Meditation email today titled, “Motivation comes from doing, not thinking.” Today is your day to stop thinking and start doing. When you start doing something, positive energy flows and you become more motivated. So don’t think about how you are going to exercise. Put on your running shoes and start running! Stop procrastinating, start doing. You’ll find a motivation that can change your life.

I’ve started the necessary steps to get me where I want to be – My sincere hope is that you will do the same. I hope to see you soon. Enjoy your day!

Aunt Dorothy, me, Aunt Anita
