talk and talk…

by Nina on November 24, 2008

Hello…
I’ve been buzzzzing around all day today. I have more gift recommendations, more pictures of 703′s transformation into a Winter Wonderland and Santa has made his appearance on the front of my Coke can… Love it! ‘Tis the Season!
As most of you know, I’m going to Dallas for Thanksgiving. I’ve been talking about packing my suitcase since last Monday and the suitcase isn’t even out of the closet yet… I’m starting to freak out a bit. It’s a good thing our cousins own the dry cleaners in town because I realized this morning that I forgot to drop off all of my clothes last week. Panic! Cousin Jason came through with an “it’s okay, I’ll get it for you by tomorrow evening.” Relief! Thanks again, Jas!!
This morning’s trip to the dry cleaners ended with Jason giving my phone number to some innocent guy trying to help his sister-in-law change her tire. Jason thought the guy was super nice and since he loves trying to fix me up… he quickly jumped on the opportunity.
This made me think of my “Uncle” Jim. Jim passed away a week ago today. It was a very sad day for our family and the days to come will continue to be filled with sadness due to all of our losses over the last couple of weeks but when I think of Jim a smile immediately takes over my face. Jim used to do the same thing that Jason did this morning… the conversation would go something like this…
J: “Hey Lady, are we planning a wedding yet?” {while grabbing my left hand to see if something shiny had taken residence on an important finger}
N: “No, not yet.”
J: “You know… I saw [insert a guy's name here] the other day and he is doing very well for himself. I really think the two of you would make a heck of a couple.”
N: Smile and eyes rolled.
{And, we would laugh and Jim would continue to go down the list of all of the guys he knew that were single and that he “approved” of for me.}
N: “Oh Jim, you’re so funny.”
{This would go on and on.}
As one of the Preachers said the other day during the service for Jim, “Jim could talk and talk… and talk… and talk…” For those of you that have not met me in person, I can talk and talk… and talk… and talk. Jim and I got along very well to say the least!!! I will miss him very much.
Jim and I at {cousin} Shawn and Tammy’s Wedding circa 2001… We could always find something to laugh about!

This is the first year in ages that I won’t be in Dallas for Thanksgiving! I’m going in three weeks. Dang… we could have met up!

That conversation reply sounds exactly like many I’ve had with my family. I know it’s a sad time in your life, but it’s great that you are able to remember such great times!
