Snapshot Wedding Recap Part III: Ceremony

by Nina on August 11, 2010

Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis

Not many people have the privilege of saying they were married in a Basilica. Especially the Basilica that holds the second most mosaics to the Vatican. We are so unbelievably blessed. We became man and wife in the presence of our family and friends and most importantly, God. With the foundation of our faith and God’s love, we are excited to finally start our life as one.

A few pieces of our ceremony, Full Mass at 1:30 p.m.

PROCESSIONAL

Canon in D.          J. Pachelbel

Trumpet Voluntary     H. Purcell

FIRST READING

Genesis 2: 18-24

The LORD God said: “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a suitable partner for him.” So the Lord God formed out of the ground various wild animals and various birds of the air, and he brought them to the man to see what he would call them; whatever the man called each of them would be its name. The man gave names to all the cattle, all the birds of the air, and all wild animals; but none proved to be the suitable partner for the man.

So the Lord God cast a deep sleep on the man, and while he was asleep, he took out one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. The Lord God then built up into a woman the rib that he had taken from the man.

When he brought her to the man, the man said: “This one, at last, is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; This one shall be called ‘woman,’ for out of ‘her man’ this one has been taken.”

That is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one body.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM 128

“May the Lord bless us all the days of our lives.”

SECOND READING

Colossians 3: 12-17

Brothers and sisters:

Put on, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved,

heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience,

bearing with one another and forgiving one another,

if one has a grievance against another;

as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do.

And over all these put on love,

that is, the bond of perfection.

And let the peace of Christ control your hearts,

the peace into which you were also called in one Body.

And be thankful.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly,

as in all wisdom you teach and admonish one another,

singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs

with gratitude in your hearts to God.

And whatever you do, in word or in deed,

do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus,

giving thanks to God the Father through him.

GOSPEL

John 15: 9-12

Jesus said to his disciples:

“As the Father loves me, so I also love you.

Remain in my love.

If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love,

just as I have kept my Father’s commandments

and remain in his love.

“I have told you this so that my joy might be in you

and your joy might be complete.

This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.”

RECESSIONAL

*Once I have the professional photos, I will do a post on the Catholic traditions and explain the ceremony in more detail. I do not have enough pictures to do so at this point.

I too got married in a Basilica and had a full Catholic Mass! I loved our ceremony and loved that we could incorporate all of the sacraments we were raised with. It’s a long ceremony but we thought it was worth it.

Also, Your church is GORGEOUS!

The Cathedral Basilica is gorgeous. What an amazing place to have a wedding. My job is located on the same street and I pass the Basilica every day. I’m sure you have truly stunning photos, can’t wait to see them!

The Basilica is stunning. I got married in a full Catholic mass as well. The marriage rite is an important sacrament in the Catholic church and both of our mothers wanted it (as well as we did).

These photos are wonderful and you all look so beyond happy.

What a special thing to be married in a Basilica! I wasn’t Catholic when we got married, but all of the preparations and traditions regarding marriage helped me to be more open to converting once I began RCIA. I love going to Mass in other churches now. Can’t wait to see more!

That’s great! I’m not Catholic and don’t know much about those things, but it looks like a big deal! Congrats, it’s gorgeous.

While I want to comment on the gorgeousness of your ceremony, that Basilica, and the most stunning bride…I can’t help but notice the photographer in her ruffled top. If that doesn’t just scream “Team NINA”, I don’t know what does!

Congrats again. I love Catholic masses and we chose to have a full Catholic Mass. I enjoyed it being longer. I was up there the entire time thinking to myself…be in this moment, remember this, enjoy this. If the ceremony was 15 minutes, it would have been over in a blink of the eye.

I feel thankful because I received Baptism, Confession, Communion, Confirmation, and Marriage Sacraments all from the same church. That church is very special to me and to my mother’s entire family since we all attended school there.

Eventhough my grandmother passed away when I was in high school, I felt her presence in the church the day of the wedding. She attended church every weekday my class did and I know she was there for my wedding.
