I’m Cosmetically Challenged…

by Nina on June 4, 2009

…There I said it! I struggle with everything about make-up… purchasing, applying, matching etc. For example, yesterday I went into Macy’s to the Chanel counter to pick up one of my favorite colored lip glosses Levres Scintillantes Glossimer in Spark. I’ve been using this color off and on since Junior year of college. I ask the girl with the Chanel coat on, “I would like to use something with this gloss to keep it on longer. Maybe a liner but I don’t want it to look like I have liner on or maybe a lipstick to put on under the gloss. Any suggestions?” She wasn’t an ounce of help and I ended up with a fuschia colored lip liner that was $27.50 (or something close to that) that I now have to return because the color combo looks like something my flamboyant great-aunt would wear. Thank God I didn’t ask her for eye shadow/blush recommendations.

So I’m sure you can imagine my excitement level when I found this make-up pallet by Sonia Kashuk at Target (Sonia Kashuk How to Look Organically Natural 01) earlier today. Not only does this pallet give you 3 eye shadows, 1 eye enhancer, 3 lip colors and a blush all in one; it also gives you instructions to apply each step to ensure you get the overall “natural” look… that matches!! The pallet is priced at $19.99. I purchased it (obviously) and couldn’t get home fast enough to give it a whirl. I ran right up stairs, cleaned my face and used all the steps with the exception of the lip colors (I used my Spark!) & I highly recommend this product to all of my fellow cosmetically challenged ladies out there. It’s fantastic!

I should have saved this for next week’s Target Tuesday but I didn’t want to keep this a secret one minute longer so now we’ll add Product of the Week to the mix!!

I am a new follower, but I love your blog!!!!! I’ve been wearing the same shades of eyeshadow since I had a makeover in Vegas 03′. Shhhhh, don’t tell anyone. I’m not that great with makeup either…..

Remember make-up = candy for the face! Have fun with it! Practice makes perfect & when in doubt you have moi to turn to for tips:)

I totally feel for you. I’m the exact same. earlier this month I went to Clinique to find a new powder for summer since my staple item left me a little too oily in the hot and humid summer months. I specifically said I had no idea what I wanted other than that I didn’t want a heavy foundation since I hardly wear any make up. First thing she picked out was a super high coverage liquid foundation. Thanks for the help?

That palette looks amazing, I’ll have to check it out!

Cool. Do they have other color pallets?

Ohhh I may need to get this. Did the color stay put for a considerable amount of time?

I have a horrible time with make up as well. The only thing I seem capable of applying well is my eyeliner.

can we see pictures of the before and afters? I am cosmetically challenged and have NO idea when makeup is too much or not enough, and don’t even get me started on how eyeshadow is supposed to be applied! :)

a) love, love, LOVE Spark. I stole a tube from my bestie back in college, and now she gets me a tube for Christmas every year. Sungold was my fave, but it was discontinued :(

b) i am makeup-stupid too. can’t WAIT to try this fun little palette!

Too funny of you to post this today, because whilst I was beautifying this morning I was thinking about how terrible I am with makeup. Absolutely horrible. SO glad I’m not the only one who struggles!

Nina,

I am so sorry to hear that the ding berry at the Channel counter was ZERO help. She has been trained better than the service you received. As a former Estee Lauder make up artist this type of thing just makes my blood boil. Glad to know that you found a product that works for you and you are happy again.
