Hit On All Sixes

by Nina on January 16, 2012

We had a “roaring” time on Saturday night! Our event was a success, we raised a lot of money for two deserving organizations. Here are a few pictures to recap the evening. We chose a Speakeasy theme this year and everyone really got into it which made it even more fun!

Stay tuned for lots of fun and exciting things here on the blog this week! I’ll announce the winner of the Cape Madras tunic later today.

When Life Trumps the Organized

by Nina on January 12, 2012

I have endless lists, iPhone reminders, calendar appointments, a color-coded Life Planner and even a well-organized Home Management notebook but right now I’m feeling defeated.

I’m unbelievably jealous of all of you that are working on your resolutions, weight loss, eating better, setting new schedules, going to bed early, reading, relaxing. I feel like every one around me is refreshed and renewed. And then there’s me! February is two weeks away and my Christmas tree is still up. I love the twinkling of the lights in the morning while I sit to feed Jack but I also look at it and want to scream.

I’m the co-chair of the planning committee for one of our town’s charity balls which happens to be this coming weekend. Plus, I have a long list of other obligations. I’ve been going a-mile-a-minute since our plane landed on New Year’s Eve. Actually since December 1st!

I’m excited about the event on Saturday but I’m more excited about Sunday. Sunday is my start to the new year. I’m finally going to meet 2012 with open arms, an open mind and a long list of goals that make me feel good just thinking about them.

Am I alone or do you ever feel like it doesn’t matter how organized you are because life has other plans?

Don’t forget to enter to win a Cape Madras tunic!

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

by Nina on January 10, 2012

I have not even had to time to take down my Christmas tree and it’s already time to start thinking about Valentine’s Day! Can you believe it? I thought I would share a few gift ideas for 2012 as well as a fun giveaway!

For Men: Ben Minkoff Khaki Waxwear iPad case on sale for $81.00

For Babies & Kids: Personalized, Educational My Pal Scout & Violet by Leap Frog $24.99

Jack received Scout for Christmas and absolutely loves it. He is so much fun while teaching our little ones colors, animal sounds, emotions, daily routine and much more! We actually have two. One for home and one for traveling. JH connected Scout to the computer and now he uses Jack’s name, favorite color, food and animal too!

For Women: Cape Madras Tunics $58.00

I received two of these tunics over the holidays and I love them! The tunics fit beautifully, especially the sleeve length. So many tunics I’ve worn in the past fit terribly including the sleeves being exceptionally long. The Cape Madras tunics will forever be a staple in my resort, summer and vacation wardrobes! And the sweet and thoughtful gals at Cape Madras want to give you the chance to win a tunic of your very own! Happy Valentine’s Day to YOU! One lucky winner will win one Cape Madras tunic. Giveaway will start now and end Friday.

Please use the Rafflecopter widget to enter to win! It’s my first time using it so please let me know if there are any issues.

Good luck!

I received product from Cape Madras. However, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own and no other monetary compensation took place. I only promote products that I believe in and use myself and in my home.

My New Year To-Do List

by Nina on January 5, 2012

New Year’s Resolutions are not really my thing. People make them and most break them within a month or so. But if you are all about resolutions, you should read this great post by Molly at Duchess of Fork on SMART Goals for 2012.

My goals are are not your typical lose 10 pounds, workout more, drink less coke even though I would like to do all three of those things. Here’s my list of things I’m going to do in 2012!

  1. Create a manageable to-do list every day.
  2. Make MY day the priority.
  3. Finish everything on the list each day.
  4. Wash my face every night.
  5. Wake up at least 30 minutes before Jack each morning.
  6. Go on a date with JH once a week.
  7. Jot down at least one thing from each day to document Jack’s days.
  8. Organize our photos monthly.
  9. Unsubscribe from all the catalogs I throw away every time they arrive in the mail.
  10. Read more.
  11. Volunteer for projects I truly believe in, instead of saying yes to everything.
  12. Grocery shop in the mornings.
  13. Focus on stocking my closet with classic, timeless well-made items that will last forever and less impulse buying.
  14. Eliminate negative forces and clutter.
  15. Make 2012 a year to remember.

And find out why I keep having these awful headaches that send me to bed after dinner, therefore allowing me to be up at 3:00 a.m. writing a blog post.

Where Have I Been? Surviving a Wild December!

by Nina on January 3, 2012

I originally had a birthday, Christmas and Christmas vacation post saved as separate drafts but since it’s already January 3rd I’m giving you the quick version. I’m ready to focus on 2012!

As I’ve told you before, December is a CRAZY month for us. We have lots of birthdays, parties, projects and we also go on vacation the last week of the month. By the time Christmas Eve rolled around this year I had what I would consider a major melt down. I was done. D.O.N.E. I wanted to put my pajamas on, watch Christmas movies and fall asleep on the couch. Packing my suitcase and double checking my mom-list to ensure I didn’t forget the necessities for the trip was the very very very last thing I wanted to do. It was too much. I had spread myself too thin. I said “yes” too many times! A good cry later, I was ready to celebrate Christmas morning and then head to the beach. And we didn’t forget a thing!

Well, with the exception of the half a dozen Christmas gifts I forgot to pick up from the framing department at Hobby Lobby.

These pictures take you from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Eve… plus our 2011 Christmas card!

I hope each and every one of you enjoyed your holiday season as much as we did. And I wish you only the very best for the new year! Here’s to twenty twelve!
