I’ve been sitting at my computer avoiding the fact my hair needs washed. If you’ve been reading this blog for any time at all, you know this is one of my least favorite tasks. I wish I was a millionaire so I could hire someone to come to my house every 3 days to wash and blowout my hair.
Most people probably dream about a live-in chef, not me. House-call hairdresser.
I’m heading to my parents’ house for the day. My mother and I are going to work on listing some eBay items (which is another task I do not care for but it’s a necessity) and plan to doing the cooking for the Super Bowl. JH is busy with work stuff this weekend, he’s entertaining clients with a Super Bowl party so I’m relocating for the weekend.
Speaking of the Super Bowl, I found myself in front of the television writing thank you notes and updating my address book yesterday afternoon which led to me watching Ellen. Bethenny Frankel (whom I love) was on with Skinny Girl Super Bowl Party ideas. I can guarantee you our Super Bowl menu will not be vegan-friendly with meatless crumbles but I have to say it all looked pretty good.
What I am making is Kate & Samma’s Sausage Tarts which everyone is very excited about!
The snow has finally arrived. Not anywhere near the amount most of you have right now but it’s here and the roads aren’t great. I think I’ll pack an overnight bag just in case it’s not safe to drive home.
I’m still recovering from over eating at dinner last night. I was hungry which I try to not let happen because I feel much better when I eat small meals/snacks throughout the day. I was painfully uncomfortable last night. I had to sleep on the couch most of the night because I was tossing and turning and I didn’t want to interrupt JH’s sleep too. He has a lot going on this weekend and I wanted him to be well rested. I feel better this morning but still not great. Hopefully a shower, hair washing and some movement will help me feel back to normal. Normal? Right. I have a human growing inside of me.
Don’t get me wrong. I love being pregnant. I love the idea that I am going to be a mom and a parent with JH. He is going to be such a wonderful dad! I get very exciting when I think about it or when JH comes home from work and talks to the baby about all the things he has planned for he and the baby to do together (I’m going to be in charge of snack preparation on game days). But I can’t help but find myself thinking and planning for what my new normal might be like.
Thinking and planning. Something I do a lot of. My girlfriends would refer to this as “my wheels turning.” I’ll be 16 weeks tomorrow. That’s 4 weeks away from 20 weeks which means I’m getting really close to the half-way point. And I find myself most concerned about what infant car seat I need for the baby. Safety comes first. I have dreams that I don’t have one when the baby arrives so the baby has to stay at the hospital. I know, crazy pregnancy dreams. But I wake up and find myself researching site after site about which one is the best one.
What’s your infant car seat of choice? Our stroller is compatible with the Maxi Cosi, Graco and Peg Pérego. Would love to hear what you use(d) and why.
Okay I’ve avoided washing my hair long enough. I’m off for the day. Hopefully you’re staying warm and enjoying your Saturday morning.

I don’t like to wash and iron my hair!! hate it!!! I want a hairdresser at home too!!
I don’t have a baby-but, of course, I have an opinion! I LOVE the Britax one (it is great for when they are big too…holds tons of weight). I like the cow print!
I make something very similar to those sausage tarts, but use jalapenos in place of red peppers and wonton wrappers instead of phyllo cups. They’re delicious, and are a HUGE crows pleaser! I’m making them for the Super Bowl party we’re going to tomorrow… perfect game day food!
Enjoy your weekend!
I have been putting washing my hair until I came home from an appointment.
I will do anything to avoid it. I have thick hair (I like think hair). It is not short and well it is curly and kinky wavy so I have to blow it dry and then straight iron it and the whole process is about 2 hours. The hair stylist sees me coming a mile away (when I get it highlighted or cut) and she says she doesn’t need to do any upper body exercise that day.
You sound just like me- hate going my hair between the huge round brush and the chi I’m over it- my stomach turns just writing those words lol. Plus I spend so much of my time thinking and planning too. Love your blog and so glad I found it!
I do not like washing my hair either…anyway…carseats…I use Peg perego with my daughter and Graco with my twins….I really ended up liking both, however, the Peg perego was quite a bit heavier than the Graco (this is why we switched up with the twins since we would be hauling around two), I also like the built in headrests in the Graco. However, the Peg Perego lasted us until my daughter was one (it was able to hold much more weight safely) and the Graco we had to switch out to a convertible seat much sooner. Good luck on the search!
Ditto on the hair washing!!!
I used a Graco travel system for my daugther but, have to say I would NOt do again. I would get a nice car seat and use a snap and go base, then get a nice lightweight stroller like my favorite the citi mini jogger with five point harness. While an infant you can just snap the car seat in the snap and go frame and then when the baby out is big enough you can use the lighter stroller of choice, that is my plan for baby #2 when he or she comes along.
Best of Luck…I have many more tips if you need….that I learned the hard way

I like Graco SnugRide best. Did you check Baby Bargains. They have listed all the best of every baby item by price and saftey guidielines. That was like a bible for me.
I have been researching car seats too!
Car seats are a BIG thing for us, too. We ended up going with the Peg Perego. We chose it because mine & Liam’s doctor recommended it to us. She’s got three kids, went with the Graco with #1 and had the HANDLE BREAK while she was carrying it. She used the Peg Perego with nos 2 and 3 and said she recommends it to everyone. She’s also big on research (she’s the best!) and she’d done a lot of doctor related research and said she felt the safest with the Peg. To be honest, it is heavy. I had my hubs carry it a lot of the time if we were going any great distance. We used it until Liam was about 10 1/2 months old- I love it. We’ve got it all wrapped in plastic and saved for #2 one day. We switched from the Peg into a Britax and I highly recommend them both.
I’ve only ever used Chicco and Britax products for carseats, so if you ever need an opinion on one of those, let me know! (I love them both, by the by.)
Don’t panic about the baby things — you’ll get there. But I realized at the same point in my first pregnancy that I had so much to do…just make lists and try to tackle a couple things each day. Don’t forget to leave room for the baby shower gifties, because you’ll get plenty of those. It’s so hard to do, but the key is to pace yourself!
I used the Peg Perago carrier car seat with my youngest and have had three of their strollers. ( a single for my first, a double for when we had our second, and another single years after when we had our third) One thing I loved about their strollers was that you could turn the handle so the babies/kids could ride facing me. I also used the Cosco Alfa Omaga car seat. I have heard great thing about Britax too. Also when your baby is a little older Maclaren makes awesome light weight strollers.
Chicco and Graco are the two top rated for safety. Both work with our stroller (Uppababy Vista). I went with a Graco because I like the fabric patterns better.
What are you listing on ebay? I just cleaned the nursery closet and listed a whole bunch of junk!
Brett and I have made the majority of our baby gear decisions based on Consumer Reports. We got the Chicco Keyfit 30 infant car seat. It is the top rated for all of their categories, including safety, which, in my opinion, when it comes to a car seat is most important.
The 2 safest car seats by far are the Graco SnugRide and Chicco KeyFit. Get Baby Bargains – it makes getting to the bottom of safety decisions pretty easy! Also to consider is the weight of the car seat SANS baby. The Peg Perego is safe (though gets lower ratings than Graco and Chicco) but HEAVY. Everyone I know who has one hates it for that reason. Add 7-8 pounds when the baby is born and then another 7-8 until they are a few months old….so definitely pick them up b/c it’s not useful if you can’t even carry it around with the baby
We went with the Chicco KeyFit b/c of weight but I also considered the Graco.
We have the peg and I love it! It has the side impact cushions which I loved and if you have a big baby, it’s good for that too! Good luck, can’t wait to see what you get! There is so much gear!! Xo
After tons of research, I went with the Peg Perego bc it had the highest safety ratings at the time (2008). I had my girls less than 16 months apart so we used the same infant seat with both girls and it still is in great shape! If I was pregnant with #3 now, I’d probably use it a third time along with the Peg Perego stroller and trust me, that thing has taken a beating but is still in great condition! But, I can say that the PP seat seems heavier than other brands that my friends have. I stopped being able to comfortably carry my babies in it after 2 months! But, I also had big babies. Whatever you go with, get a second base so you can easily pop the infant seat into your Hubby’s car, etc. Just makes life easier.
Nina, we are thrilled with your baby news and have been waiting for you to announce it. How fortunate that child will be to have you two as parents.
Hair? At 73 I would kill for a personal hairdresser. H. Clinton has the money and I so wish she would utilize that service.
Much love…
Yay for sausage cups! I hope you enjoyed them!
We used the Peg Perego car seat with my son up until his first birthday and it is fantastic, I highly recommend it. The girl who said that the Peg Perego ranked lower than the Graco and Chicco in safety is mistaken, it actually rates much higher. We now have the Britax Boulevard which I also like, and although you can use it for infants starting at 5 lbs. I wouldn’t recommend it only because the car seat itself cannot be removed from the car as an infant carrier. I can remember my husband thought “Why would we ever leave the baby in his car seat to take him out of the car?” Well, trust me he learned quickly. It is so nice to be able to attach your car seat to a stroller when they are little. I know you said you already have a stroller but the Peg Perego Si Stroller is also nice. I liked that it wasn’t one of those ginormous travel strollers that just seem so big and bulky. I think its size is more comparable to an umbrella stroller and it folds easily with one hand. There are some great video reviews of the stroller online. Congrats on your pregnancy!
Hi, Nina!! Our baby is just three weeks old today and we’re using the Maxi-Cosi Mico infant car seat with the Mila Stroller (we got them from The Land of Nod)! We love it! It’s maybe a tiny bit big, but light as can be and to be honest, just a lot cuter than some of the other ones out there.
Congratulations on your baby! I actually live in Carbondale…it’s been so fun to read your blog and know there’s someone else in the area who likes the same things!
We used the Graco Snug Ride. It is the lightest (when you have to carry a big ole baby around in it, that is a major thing!). We snapped it into our bugaboo cameleon and it was great. I plan to use it again. Britax is the way to go when they get bigger. Ours saved J’s life in our car accident this summer. We have the Roundabout 50 b/c it is smaller than the Marathon and has all the same stats other than that.
I honestly have always loved our Graco infant carseats….when I buy convertible seats, I buy Recaro and Recaro Boosters for the older two!!! Love Recaro
