My Home Management Notebook

by Nina on August 8, 2011

Thanks to Erin at Blue Eyed Bride and Megan at Honey We’re Home, I’ve created a Home Management Notebook for myself. I’m so happy with the final result even though I know it might change once I start using it every day. Just creating the notebook has put me more at ease with my daily routine and overall organization of our home and family.

I love that everyone’s notebooks are different. The versatility of this project is fantastic. You can do whatever you want. There is not a right or wrong way. Your way is the right way for you!

After days of online searching, I finally found the binder for me. I found it on Amazon from We R Memory Keepers. It’s an 8.5 x 11 leather 3-ring binder in orange soda.

Items/Products Used

  • Leather binder
  • Recycled post-its
  • Uni-ball Vision Elite pens (see here for more on favorite pens)
  • Sharpies Ultra-fine
  • Clear zippered pouches
  • 3-ring folders
  • Black & white laser printer
  • 3 hold punch
  • Laser jet labels for tabs
  • Page protectors (for things like magazine clippings or fabric swatches)

My Tabs

Main: emergency info, phone number directory, babysitter info, medical info, take out phone numbers.

Daily: daily to-do list, daily docket and Jack’s daily feeding log.

Cooking: Menu planner, recipes to try, favorite recipes and grocery info. I printed out a master item list as a reminder not so much to use as my grocery list.

Chores: Chore list and master list of all rooms in the house again as a reference guide.

Blog: I found the best blog forms on ListPlanIt. ListPlanIt has hundreds of lists to put your world in order.

Projects and Goals

Parties: I liked the momAgenda download the best for party planning. I also included a checklist from Martha Stewart.

Travel: I liked the momAgenda download for travel as well but also like the “before we leave” list from Organized Home.

Birthdays and Anniversaries: Most of the “birthday lists” didn’t have nearly enough room for me so I printed out one of The Project Girl’s monthly calendar and plan to add all anniversaries and birthdays there for fast and easy reference. It also allows for more room to make notes about gift ideas if need be.

I also included a Gift Worksheet by The Project Girl but I’m not sure if I’ll actually use this form.

Websites and Online Info

Address List: I ordered an Erin Condren Address Book in addition to my Life Planner but I wanted a section in my notebook to make quick notes of new addresses as I receive notes or gifts in the mail. Also from Organized Home.

Ideas and Notes

As mentioned above in my list of products I used, here are the 3-ring folders for items like warranties and registration paperwork. I also have a folder for myself, JH, Jack and a “misc.” folder too.

I have the page protectors in the back mainly because they are only in the Home Management Notebook temporarily. They will eventually get moved to a binder of their own whether it’s a recipe, article for blog post inspiration or an idea to use for an upcoming party.

The clear zippered pouches are the last thing in my Home Management Notebook. As you can see, I use one for coupons, one for receipts and one for post-its, note cards and stamps.

I love the organization! We are expecting our first baby come January and I’d like to have my own organized system so life doesn’t get completely turned upside down. At least if it does turn upside down, this would help get back on track! Thanks for sharing and I love your new header by the way. Too cute = )

I love your notebook! I might have to upgrade a few of my notebooks since they are a little bit of an eye sore on my bookshelf at the moment.

You ladies are totally convincing me I need something like this – even as a working mommie! Maybe I should create a home management one for working mommies!
