What’s in my Inbox? Catch Up!

by Nina on September 24, 2010

I receive lots of emails on a daily basis and I have to admit I’ve been not-so-good at replying for the last year or so… actually since I met JH! He doesn’t mind taking the blame since I’m pretty sure he likes that I pick him over my blog!

Anyway, I remember a lot of the questions but can’t find all emails so I’m going to answer them here. It makes me sad when I randomly remember that I didn’t respond to a reader, especially when it’s a request for help on buying a gift or for a link that I forgot to add to one of my posts. I hope writing this post will make me feel a little more “caught up” and then my goal is to answer questions from readers in a timely fashion like I used to back before love took over my life ;)

Watch recommendations for men?

image via philipstein.com

Watches are hard. There are million different timepieces for millions of different personalities and styles. For example, most men have a professional watch, casual watch, athletic watch and quite possibly a more trendy option as well. My favorite designers for men – Gucci, Cartier, Rolex all have gorgeous lines of timepieces. I’m a huge fan of Panerai and Philip Stein, as well. For more budget friendly options check out Michael Kors and Victorinox Swiss Army.

Would you mind sharing the links to the how-to instructions for decorations on your Baby Shower 411 post?

I’ve updated the Baby Shower 411 post with all necessary links. I’m not sure why they were not showing up before.  Click here to read the entire post.

Gift recommendations for Grandmas?

I wrote a post quite a while ago on Gifts for Grandmas but I would also recommend books or Nook/Kindle, if they’re tech savvy, a new piece of cookware like a Le Creuset stock pot or baking dish or even a fun piece of jewelry could be well appreciated. Grandmas are all different so you have to keep in mind their personal styles, likes and dislikes.

I just wanted to know how you’re liking your watch?  Was the size ever a problem for you or did you just get used to it?

You might say I’m obsessed with my Michele Deco Diamond Watch. I wear it every day. I wear it now with the all stainless band but originally intended to wear it with the two-tone band. I still plan to do this. I wear so much gold now that I think I will be very happy with the choice once I just pull the trigger and get it on order.

Confession: As much as I talk about online shopping and even with it being my only shopping option when I’m at home in the southern Midwest – land of NO shopping, I rarely complete the orders I start online. Simply because going to the store, touching the item, taking it to the counter, handing a plastic card over the counter, listening to the computer process it, receiving a pretty bag containing your new possession, having lunch and returning home with all of your bags as if you’ve completed a marathon… is just far more fun! {Yes, I’m one of the crazy people that LOVES Black Friday. I’ll never forget the day after Thanksgiving when I was the first person in the door at Nordstrom. If I remember correctly, the smile on my face was a close second to the one on my wedding day.}

As much as I love my Michele watches {I have a round 16mm with no diamonds that my parents bought me for my 25th birthday}, there are times I wish I had a chunky gold watch, a Van Cleef & Arpels Vintage Alhambra clover timepiece for more formal occasions or when I’m channeling my inner Darcy Miller, a white watch for casual Saturdays… I think you probably get the point.

Where did you find/buy your bridesmaids’ dresses and would any of the girls be interested in selling their dresses?

With the help of my maids, blog readers and Twitter friends, we decided on the LulaKate Maggie dress and found them at Bella Bridesmaid. I can’t speak for my girls but I will ask if they are interested in selling their dresses. I want to order one in a black or navy for my closet! They were absolutely darling in person and very well made.

Who were the men in uniform at your wedding ceremony?

The Fourth Degree Knights were the men in uniform at our wedding. Since Joe {my husband/JH} is a Fourth Degree Knight we were blessed and honored with the presence of The Knights at our wedding.

A little more detail about The Fourth Degree Knights — from the article  - A Degree Of Patriotism Of The Knight’s Of Columbus 76 on Hubpages.com.

“The 4th Degree [Knights] is a select branch of the Knight’s of Columbus Order. One has to be 3rd Degree [...]. They also do charity work and give many dollars to Catholic Religious, Civic and Charities.
Through obtaining the 4th Degree their lesson is Virtue. The utmost purpose of the Fourth Degree is to cultivate and exalt the spirit of patriotism and citizenship of the Knight’s of Columbus territories and countries through active membership in their 4th Degree Assemblies.Their motto is first God and Country and then the Order of the Knight’s Of Columbus. Among the lesson of Virtue they have also learned the lessons of
CHARITY, benevolence, sympathy, amiability, patriotism, submission, unity, obedience.
HOPE, modesty, temperance, patience, self control, fortitude, chastity, prudence
FAITH, piety, gratitude, impartiality, justice, loyalty, equity, honesty
TRUTH, constancy, wisdom, integrity, brotherly love, forgiveness, kindness.”

PURPOSE OF THE FOURTH DEGREE

The purpose of the Furth Degree Patriotism Order of The Knights of Columbus is:

  • To promote and strengthen the spirit of the civic community.
  • To educate its members and other both in the teachings of Holy Mother Church and the history of the nation.
  • To promote by example the highest type of citizenship so necessary for the preservation and perpetuation of Republic form of government and its democratic institutions.
  • To oppose dissemination and spread of doctrine dangerous to our form of government and to the Divine Law of our Faith and morality.
  • To support by word and deed, the duly constituted authorities of local, state and national government, and to recognize excellence in public life.

PLACE AND EVENTS THEY ARE SEEN AT

You will see their presence at church functions such as: First Communions, Weddings, some baptisms, funerals, Confirmations, Easter and Christmas .
They are strong supporters of the Veteran‘s Administration and the soldiers who have been in the many wars and battles of our times.
Charities and events they promote and are involved in are: local sponsorship for families or individuals in need from extreme circumstances, the Blood Drive, The Chalice Fund, put flags out on the veteran’s graves sites on Veteran’s Day and many other patriotic and civic functions.“

I love those cards. I too am having a problem picking out our first Christmas card. I think I have it narrowed down and I can’t wait to send them to everyone. Also, the watch is beautiful. No wonder you wear it everyday!
