Okay, so you are probably thinking that I eat at McDonald’s all the time. I really don’t. It’s just that there are SO many questions & so much controversy that goes into ordering a large coke! Like… Why is it such a HUGE deal to give me my coke in a Styrofoam cup!?? No, I don’t want fries with my large coke. No, I don’t want a brownie melt at 8:40 a.m.
Now, I have a question… As a marketing professional, I think to myself, it must work or they wouldn’t keep asking me if I want additional items to what I’ve already ordered. AND, it must really work or they would not NOW be asking me “If I would like to try an Iced Mocha?” before I even order.
SO, How many of you have actually said “Yes” when the person working the drive-thru at McDonald’s asks you, “Would you like to add two apple pies for a dollar?” or “Would you like to add fries to your order today?” or other like questions??? Or is just as annoying to you as it is to me???

This bugs me too. And it doesn’t just happen at McDonald’s — Starbucks and Chick-fil-A both do it too! I’ve never ordered anything extra just because they asked but it obviously works or they wouldn’t continue to make suggestions.
no, it doesn’t work on me! it just annoys the crap out of me! they are really stressing those new coffee drinks HARD! but, i can see how it could work…
They ask me ALL the time. And I NEVER take them up on their offer!
Okay – sometimes I fall for that. Most at places other than McDonalds and mostly at places that actually sound like they really LOVE the “extras”! LOL! I am a sucker!

Oh dear Lord…this disturbs me so much there are not even words to describe it! Let me order already!!!!
I have agreed exactly once.
I got the iced mocha on a particularly exhausting day. It was worth it.
it annoys me as well!
ugh-noying!
Oh that just drives me nuts! “Welcome, would you like a super-fatso sized triple burger and monster fries?” No thank you, its 10am, I’ll just have a tea.
BWHA!
I’ve never tacked on the extras they offer and have never ordered what they suggest at the beginning unless is just happened to be what I was planning to order anyway!
Speaking of fast food…
Tonight at Wendy’s
Customer: I would like 3 Coffee Toffee Twisted Frosty’s
Person Working: Ok, would you like anything else?
Customer: Uh, yes. I would like 4 Coffee Toffee Twisted Frosty’s
btw, coffee toffee twisted frosty’s are really good! but if you go to the one in cdale then plan on waiting awhile for it!
Having worked at McDonalds for approx 8 years I can tell you first hand that suggestive selling at the beginning of the order taking process and more so upselling when the customer has ordered does indeed work.
Of course it is totally dependent upon the attitude of the one doing the suggesting, I personally could either suggest or up-sell at least 1 out of every 3-4 orders through the drive-thru when I was in a good mood!
