The holidays in general make my spirits bright…but this year I have an especially bright spirit because I’m going to have my entire family here! Ian and Andrea (I haven’t spent Christmas with Ian in Nashville in I think 4 years) AND all of Javier’s family – we haven’t seen them since our wedding in 2009!

Going for a run in my neighborhood after work and enjoying the Christmas lights/decorations on foot…it’s usually so quiet and peaceful and with everything lit up and pretty it makes the run go by so quickly!

To me, it’s the little things that keep my spirits bright during this hectic time of year! I love the smell of things baking in the oven, the crisp air, sitting in the dark with only the lights of the tree shining, the cuddles from my hubs and two little munchkins!

Being with my family, all of whom live far away. I also love sharing my family traditions with my daughter Brooke. My favorite is sleeping under or around the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. I have great memories with my siblings and even though Brooke is an only child, it is sure fun to do with her! :)

Paying it forward. Nothing makes my heart happier than doing a random act of kindness for a complete stranger. Someone did that for me a couple of years ago and it completely restores my faith in humanity. I shocked the lady at a drive thru not to long ago when I asked if I could pay for the person behind me. It’s not about the money, it’s about reminding ourselves and others that we’re all on this thing together. :-)

Everything about the season makes me feel merry and bright! My most favorite is something that I haven’t heard in going on four years. That is hearing a man from my parents church sing O Holy Night at Christmas Eve service. It is amazing. Gives me chills when I hear it. I miss hearing him sing that song!

I am thankful for my family this year more than ever. I am thankful that we all surround my sister who is going through chemo for a recurrence of cancer, and that family gives her strength. I am thankful for friends who support me through good times and bad. I am thankful for a good job and colleagues whom I count amongst my friends. I am truly blessed.
