I won’t give the story away, in case some of you have not read it, but I will fill you in on my thoughts, feelings and overall LOVE (or is it just lust?) for the book. It’s the second book I’ve finished in less than seven days; therefore it will forever hold a special place in my heart. I find being enthusiastic about even the minor details makes life just a bit (actually, a lot) more fun!
To pick up where we left off yesterday. If this were a movie, I would watch it over and over again like I do “The Wedding Date” or “The Holiday”, leaving the room during the unhappy parts. You know like when Miles leaves Iris at the Sushi restaurant because Maggie called and wanted to see him or when Nick sleeps at the boat house because Kat is furious with him for not telling her that her sister had been sleeping with her ex for years.
I still hate Leo and the kind of man he represents in this book. I actually found myself skimming quickly through the parts about him while slightly holding my breath.
I laughed out loud at many parts and also cried. A few random thoughts & quotes…
Andy & Ellen spotted Dustin Hoffman in East Hampton. “After we passed, Andy told me he had to use every bit of restraint not to burst out with the famous line from The Graduate – “Just one word… plastics!” If you don’t already know, our family is in the plastic manufacturing business. Enough said, right? Even though it sounds a bit different coming from my dad, “Plastic, young man…. plastics are the future!”
I love when Ellen is talking about the Buckhead social group and says something on the lines of…. they are more interesting than they look when you see them chatting on their cell phones behind the wheel of their Range Rovers with their designer kids in the back seat. The “designer kid” part is just hilarious.
“This is a blip on the relationship radar screen.” So fitting for so many different situations. Don’t fret the small stuff, it’s what gives us depth, right?
I wish I would have marked the pages with some of Margot’s lines. I love her character. If you have read the book & know anything about me, it probably doesn’t surprise you in the least. I seriously think I was born and bred in the South in a previous life! I mean, it would explain why I wear pearls on a regular basis…. even sometimes with my Lulu pants.
So I leave with this quote and two questions, “…love is the sum of our choices, the strength of our commitments, the ties that bind us together.”
Do you believe in fate or destiny?
Is love a choice and not a surge of passion?

Pearls with Lulu pants – You are Southern.Period. xoxo
I read that book last month on my Mexico trip! Finished it in 2 days! This was such a great summer read!!
I still haven’t seen all of the Wedding Date, but I have to. This was actually my least favorite book out of all the Emily Giffin ones – but some of the quotes are really good…
I think love is a little fate, a little destiny, a little bit of choice and a little bit of something else that I haven’t figured out yet…
I bought the book after you talked about it on twitter. Reading it now.
As you know, I love, love Emily Griffin! Her books are classic “summer” reads – they are quick and you fall in love or lust with the characters every time!! ; )
If you go to her website; you can get a sneak peak (by reading the first chapter) of her new book “Heart of the Matter” with a release date in Spring 2010 (which is perfect and I cannot wait).
