Golden Globes & Sunday TV

by Nina on January 17, 2011

Happy Monday to you!

I didn’t get a chance to watch the Red Carpet Arrivals but I did watch the first hour of the Golden Globes last night. To be honest, I was too bored to continue to watch any longer, so I switched to ABC Sunday Night TV.

My recap is simple. Who I liked, disliked and who I want to send a gift card to Bed, Bath & Beyond to so she can go buy a mirror.

Green was clearly the trend this year. I will agree that it is a hot color & looked fantastic on most! With that said, I dislike Angelina Jolie so much that I will always hate whatever gown she chooses, even if I like the dress. As for Angelina’s dress, the shoulders are a little too Star Trek for my taste.

Helena Bonham Carter is just all around wrong. Only SJP in SATC can pull off two different colored shoes. I’ve decided she doesn’t own a mirror! It’s the only possible explanation for this mishap. And Michelle Williams. I like her new very-short-chic cut but the dress looks like something one would wear to a fancy Woodstock. She should have gone with a sleeker gown, bolder color with a higher neck or a big necklace.

I have not been a fan of Scarlett Johansson since He’s Just Not That Into You. Her dress isn’t bad but her hair is terrible. Last dish, Nicole Kidman’s dress had conflicting embellishments. One of the two needed to go. I would have ripped the bow off myself but that’s just me!

My favorite of the night goes to Amy Adams! The dress is fabulous. The color is rich. Her hair is light yet polished. And her makeup is just right with highlighted eyes, all over glow and a touch of color on her lips. Well done, Amy, well done!

Now moving on for my fellow ABC Sunday Night TV watchers…

Did any of you watch Desperate Housewives? So dumb. The storyline with Gabby and the doll is so nutty to me. What I would give for Friends to be back on the air.

As I tweeted last night, I despise the come back of Tommy. He is such a I’m-the-victim, poor-me whiner. I can’t stand it. And his pouty fiance is too much for me. Her clothes are horrific and her obsession with the Walker family tree is so strange but I’m with one of my Twitter followers, I think she knows something about the Walkers that not even the Walkers know about. Things could get interesting.

Did anyone think it was odd that there was not one mention of Kitty this episode?

Did you watch the Golden Globes? Who won your Best Dressed Award last night? Are you an ABC Sunday Night TV watcher? What are your thoughts on Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters?

I agree with you regarding the dresses. Not not an Angelina fan and the dress just proved that feeling.
I stopped watching Desperate Housewives this season. I thought it had gotten back on track but no. Do not care for what they have done to many of the characters.
As for Brothers and Sisters I agree with no mention of Kitty. It is like she just disappeared (I think that is what Calista Flockhart wanted to do anyhow).
Not too much of a Balthazar Getty fan. I hope he gets his life in order, but last nights show was just sort of there. No rhyme or reason.

I totally agree with your thoughts about the dresses…and about Angelina Jolie in general. I also thought that Eva Longoria looked very elegant.

I too share your Sunday evening ABC love.

I do agree that I think she knows something that the Walkers don’t know, so that will be a different story line, I’m sure a good one too!

I saw Amy Adams on NONE of the Golden Globes recaps this morning! I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thought her dress was fantastic! I could not agree more with your words on Angelina. Moving onto ABC…I can’t seem to stop watching the housewives but they have really gone off the deep end. As for Tommy’s comeback, I cannot stand it. He doesn’t even look like the same person and his fiance is SO annoying. Not to mention her freakishly stalking their family tree. I think we are about to find out some interesting Walker family history but they should have figured out a better way to unveil it.

1. Cannot agree more on Angelina Jolie. I can’t put my finger on why exactly, but I’m just never going to be a fan of hers.

2. Desperate Housewives is getting weird – still, I can’t stop watching. I’ll watch till the end. I do love Keith’s character though.

I loved Olivia Wilde’s dress. I believe it was Marchesa. And I hear you on Friends…I am all for a reunion! Speaking of Friends, I don’t care for the man-stealing Angie but I like the COLOR of her dress…something about the whole look was off.

You know, I agree, I don’t think I will ever be a fan of her, just because of all the things (ahem, lets not go there), she has done. But I love that dress. My favorites were Scarlett Johansson, Lea Michele, and Natalie Portman. But I ADORED Olivia Wilde’s. This is the most gorgeous gown…I want one for my prom!

Oh I agree completely, Desperate Housewives is awful! I can’t stop watching for some reason, but the story lines are just terrible, and I cannot stand Vanessa Williams. I think you’re right about Brothers and Sisters too, Rose is a horrible dresser, and is definitely up to no good with this family tree business!

I watched the Golden Globes and DVRed Brothers and Sisters. Will catch up on it tonight. Why was Angie leaning on Brad the entire night? I did not think it was cute at all.

I agree with you on the dress choices. Amy did look amazing and you nailed the worst dressed list. I want to shake Michelle Williams. She knows better! I just don’t even get that dress choice!

I have DH dvr’d for later but I agree with you on Brothers and Sisters. I’m over Tommy. And did he quit eating?!? I think that girl is going to be nothing but trouble for the Walker’s. Where is Kitty? I know she’s in D.C or whatever, but why?!? I guess that’s why the didn’t mention her because they know she went to visit Robert’s kids. I guess we’ll have to see how all that plays out.

End novel. We can tweet about this on Sunday!

I agree 100% about Angelina. Can’t like her, just can’t.

I love love your comment about Michelle Williams– fancy woodstock. Ha!

I am 150% with you on Amy Adams. She was stunning, I was bummed nobody talked about her at all today. But then, they had a lot to critique, so… the people who looked good actually ended up getting OVER looked?
Wish I’d followed your lead and changed away when the Globes got boring. I sat and watched the whole thing and spent most of my time incredulous as to who they’d given the award to. I would have been much happier at the end of the night if I’d picked up my remote.

I am so there with you on the Angelina-front. I loathe her and she will always be a homewrecker in my eyes no matter how many kids she and Brad think they can save from poverty.
Helena and Michelle, well not sure who dressed them, but I think Michelle’s dress def is her taste. There were many nice dresses but I think I loved Natalie Portman’s dress and Emma Stone’s dress the best. I almost didn’t recognize Emma with her tan. You’re right about Nicole’s conflicting embelishment, almost didn’t see it.
I know Ricky Gervais is getting a lot of flack for his bad jokes but he didn’t say anything that wasn’t already out there in print or online. Know what I mean? :-) Jay Leno made a comment about it tonight.
Unfortch, I don’t watch Brothers and Sisters anymore. For some reason I lost interest after the first season. :-(

I don’t watch a lot of TV but I have always looked forward to Sunday night pasta and watching Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters. Now I just seem to look forward to Sunday night pasta. Makes you wonder if they have new writers or maybe the old ones are guilty of WUI (writing under the influence).

I could not agree more with you on every single thing you said! Can’t stand Angelina or her shoulder pads, don’t care for Scarlett either, and I’m so over Desperate Housewives. Their writers are clearly on crack. :-D

I’m a die-hard Brothers & Sisters fan and this episode made me cringe. Tommy is really obnoxious and his fiance seems like she’s there for all the wrong reasons. But I think it’s shaping up to be something good!

I agree with you that Amy Adams looked stunning, but Olivia Wilde’s dress was my favorite of the night. So fun with the full skirt!

I completely agree with all of your dislikes :) What was Michelle Williams thinking with that dress?!

100% agreement on Angelina – you can toss Brad in there with that, also. Good post, Nina :-) ! Have a great day. xoxo
