election party…

by Nina on November 2, 2008

Lulu from The Dirty Martini Diaries emailed me this afternoon and requested that I write a post on Election Night Party Ideas for this coming Tuesday. Can you believe it’s this week!?!

So here it goes…

Games:
A little friendly betting heightens the excitement.
{credit for this idea goes to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review}
Make up some questionnaire cards and have your guests fill them out as the arrive.
“What are the Odds?”
• What color will the wives be wearing while they wait for the results? Will the candidates opt for full-press business suits, shirts and ties or take off their ties and jackets and roll up their sleeves?

• What time will the losing candidate will make his concession speech?

• What will the “point spread” be for the electoral college count when the loser concedes?

• How long will it be from the end of the concession speech until the first pundit begins speculating on the 2012 election?

• Which state’s results will decide the race?
Award prizes to the winners!!

Menu Ideas:
I’ve read a bunch of ideas and I’ve decided I’m going to Mix It Up…

Lulu found this recipe and I do believe it’s a Must! Lipstick Pigs in a Blanket

Seven Layer Dip with Patriotic Chips – Southwestern style

Right-Wings – Southwestern Style Chicken Wings

Cut out the Pork Sandwiches – light and easy BBQ pork sandwiches which are a Lulu-speciality!

Mac & Cindy Pasta – Creamy mac & cheese

Elephant Ears and Donkey Tails – for something sweet!

Drinks:
I love the idea of having bottles of Arizona Ice Tea

Maverick-tini (Lulu, this one’s for you!)
• 3/4 ounce raspberry puree
• 3/4 ounce lemon juice
• 1/4 ounce simple syrup
• 3/4 ounce Stoli Raspberry Vodka
• 3/4 ounce Chambord
• Long lemon twist, for garnish
Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker. Fill it with ice. Shake it several times. Strain the drink into martini glass and garnish with a long lemon twist.

Decor:
Well if you haven’t noticed we are in crunch-time mode… So, we are going to keep this part very simple. Buy Red, White & Blue napkins, plates and cups. Stop by your party’s local headquarters and grab a bunch of stickers (they are very generous at mine). Add a sticker to each cup and your guests will think you specially ordered them! If you get enough you can have your guests wear them as well. Thanks, Rachael Ray for the sticker idea!

Enjoy and please don’t forget to Vote… and tell all of your friends and strangers too!

This post is PERFECT Nina! I had planned to host a party, but since I am volunteering all day I felt is was the last thing I needed to add to my plate. I might just have to do some of the smaller ideas you gave though!

I love it! What a perfect post, as usual, from our Go-To-Girl!

Actually, I have some Arizona Iced Tea in my fridge, I may need to have a glass today for good luck :)

What fantastic ideas! I love your blog, and am now a follower! Thanks so much for checking mine out. Aren’t Westies the best? I love animals in general and write about them often! Nice to meet you! =)
