I still struggle with swimsuits…

by Nina on May 1, 2009

  1. I don’t understand why you have to spend BIG money to get one that fits, looks good and doesn’t make you feel like a whale.
  2. I don’t understand why they are made for people with either huge boobs or no boobs.
  3. I don’t understand why they can’t be sized like clothing.
  4. I don’t understand why solid black (boring) is the only option for me. {With the exception of one Lilly P. suit that I landed at The Met Fashion House in Sarasota.}
  5. I don’t understand why out of ALL of the online sites to buy swimsuits… I’m left with these two and of course, I like the more expensive one. Shocker!

Vix Swimwear [Nordstrom.com] $74 for top & $74 for bottom.

0474210197643r__astl_300x400This suit is by Shoshanna [Saks.com]. Perfect example of the high dollar price tags. $96 for the bottoms and $92 for the top.

For that price, I hope it magically transforms my body into the one in the picture!

Do you struggle with suits too?!

I loathhhhe buying bikinis. However, I have a Vix suit that is really similar to that and it is AMAZING. The material is good quality and it has lasted very well. I haven’t tried Shoshanna.. but am a huge fan of Jets by Jessika Allen. Pricey too, but awesome (and different tops for different bust sizes).. I usually go to http://www.ozresort.com.au and they have a good selection. [I'm not affiliated with the website.]

So funny that you posted this….I just bought a swimsuit at Dillards. I HATE swimsuits and almost NEVER can find one that I like. I actually found one today that will work with my flat chest. :) Imagine that!

Oh yes do I struggle! I have a long torso, smaller upper half and lets just say womanly hips! I find one that I love and then I cry when I can’t wear it any longer! I also hate trying them on in stores, not flattering at all! Ugh!

I think splurging on a swimsuit is so worth it. I struggle with wanting to cover up my soccer thighs!

I struggle with this every year! J.Crew is the only place where I can find a suit that fits and makes me happy. It’s a little expensive but they last forever :)

I hate swimsuits and dread shopping for them. However, I have ALWAYS has luck with Shoshanna. They are expensive, but they last forever. I have had my black Shoshanna bikini for about 6 years and you can’t even tell it’s that old!

Ugh. I’m usually a different size upstairs than downstairs, so no one-piece suits for me, and I have to shop places where I can buy the two pieces separately. Nordstrom is pretty good with their suit selection, but otherwise it is totally luck of the draw for me.

Bathing suit shopping is the worst.. I always find myself wanting a top in one brand and a bottom in another. ugh!

I feel your pain! The older I get the harder it gets. Why can’t they make swimsuits for normal shaped people and ones that cover the areas that I would like hidden. And to spend so much on a piece of clothing that does not require alot of fabric stuns me! But when I do come across that perfect suit I buy three of them just in different colors. Good for the tan line too!

I don’t even want to think about it… Living where I live, one sometimes has more bathing suits than clothes, and in my case, it’s almost true. But I hate shopping for them. I always have to buy a bigger size down low than up top so I always buy them separate. I usually just buy print bottoms that I like and then find a cheap solid top.. It works.

Oh girl! I always have to buy separates b/c of the girls and of course they normally run $70-90 for each piece! I hate it. Why on earth do you have to drop $200 on a swim suit?? I would much rather have a cute pair of shoes for that :)

Ha, ha! I absolutely cannot buy a two piece swimsuit if it’s only offered in one size. I struggled w/ suits for years… and then JCrew started offering D sizes (even though I’m a double-dog) and then I order a small bottom. I just ordered some from their spring sale w/ an extra 20% off last night! I don’t get the fun designs though.

I am always on the search for the perfect swimsuit. I have one from 3 years ago and it fits perfect, but it is starting to wear out. I have yet to find one that is like it. I love the baby pic of you putting on your swimsuit! That reminds me so much of me. I used to always have it backwards!

I recommend a mumu! Also try Newport News- it’s hit or miss, but they’re cheap & cheerful & perfect for a season!

Swimsuits are a huge pain! I have only just discovered that tankinis seem to work well with my long torso, but even then I still have to try a million versions to figure out what works the best.
