I know my family shares this tradition with many families across the land but this is one of my favorite traditions. My mom and I start looking for “this year’s pajamas” long before Halloween. If you don’t buy them when you find them, you’re out of luck! Case in point, I would love a pair of the Hanna Andersson pajamas shown below for Jack and I waited too long to order. All sold out now.
Also, we originally wanted the white and red polka dot pajama set from Kelly Kids but again they sold out too quickly. The next best thing we found was the red and white polka dot set from VS. They’re cute and not nearly as “sexy” as they make them look in the picture below. It was the only picture I could find and my set is at my parents’ house so I could not take a picture of my own. They have a cute scalloped trim around the edges too. They are flannel but it’s a very light flannel. Not the super duper thick kind, thank goodness.
So anyway, we’re still on a mission to find Jack a pair of pjs but he always has his cute little MudPie Santa pair if all else fails.
We always open our new pajamas on Christmas Eve and it is mandatory to wear them on Christmas morning. No exceptions!
Are new pajamas part of your Christmas traditions? What are your family’s rules?

Love this idea! We’re doing the same thing but I was having a hard time finding a good pair for myself. Getting on vs.com right now- I’m a sucker for polka dots and scallop trim
I was introduced to the pajamas for Christmas through my father-in-law & his wife. They live about 20 hrs away, so when we actually make it to their house on Christmas Eve, we open our PJs & go to bed wearing them. There is always some coordination between all the PJs in the family. When we don’t make it their for Christmas, I have gone out to get my husband & I get pajamas for each other to open on Christmas Eve & wear to bed & the next morning. His mom & step-dad live just 20 mins away, so we sometimes wear them to their house! Anyway, this year is our first Christmas with our 3 months old daughter & I snatched her up a pair of footed pajamas at the Carter’s store. At first I got her the 3 months, then realized she might be too big for it & went back to the store to get a bigger size, so now I have 2! Now I just need to get some for my husband & I! Sorry for the long comment!
I have the Hanna Anderson ones for my son – in red and green! I LOVE them. I got them at the HA store in Atlanta – call them and see if they have some! I don’t think they are sold out…
they are the best PJs!
Thank you for the tip! I am going to do just that. Calling now! Merry Christmas!
The polka dot pajamas are SO cute! I wish I could find mommy/daughter pajamas that are like those. All the ones I have found are not cute enough to buy.
PLEASE OH PLEASE take a picture ala Victoria’s Secret Model in your polka dot PJs on Christmas morning you sexy mama!!
You may check eBay for the Hanna Anderson PJs too… if not, Carters has a darling pair with Santa on them that would fit your color scheme, my boys have them and I love them. They don’t “look like Carters.” xoxo
Hi Nina! I love your Christmas tradition! My family did not do the PJ thing, but it is something I will consider when I have a family of my own:) I had a thought about for HA pj’s for Jack, we have one of there outlets up here in Kittery, Maine- you could always give them a ring and check. Merry Christmas!
PS- I love the polka dots!!!
They have the HA pjs at the Houston galleria store! You may want to check there!
Love the polka dot pjs – thanks for the cute idea!!!
Yes! We have just started this now that we have a baby boy!
I think it is so cute! We have some for the babies but not for us! I have been looking but haven’t found anything yet, I need to get on it again!
