A Chilly Tuesday in Kansas City

by Nina on February 23, 2011

Yesterday I had the luxury of spending the entire day with my mom and my sister while JH had business meetings in Kansas City. My sister goes to college here and JH does a lot of business in the surrounding areas so my mother and I took the opportunity to come along for some girl-time! We had a wonderful day from start to finish!

Breakfast in Kansas City

We started the day with a fantastic, healthy breakfast at First Watch.

After breakfast, we drove to the Brookside neighborhood to stop in a few little stores. I loved this area. They had an adorable baby boutique but we’ll have to return once we know the sex of the baby. It’s getting harder and harder not knowing what this little person is inside of me.

While shopping in the store called Stuff, I came across this awesome light-up letter. It would not fit with my decor but I knew I had to snap a shot to show all of you. I’m so glad to have an iPhone again, the picture quality and ease of being able to upload straight to Flickr makes blogging SO much easier.

Also in Brookside, The New Dime Store. Quite possibly my favorite stop of the day! It was set up just like an old dime store and the goods to grab were endless! Tons of fun stuff & on the counter I found my inspiration for the party favors for my best friend, Andrea’s bridal shower coming up in May. I’ll share the rest of my loot later.

The New Dime Store

After our FULL day of shopping, we went to the show to see Just Go With It (yes, my second time). My mother had not seen it and my sister wanted to take us to the Fork & Screen Theater. It is definitely THE way to see a movie. I’ve been to a similar type of theater in Chicago. I have to say Chicago knows how to do food better than Kansas City but the warm (real) cloth at the end of the movie made it all worth it!

Fork & screen

JH was off to business meetings pretty early this morning so my mom and I hit the treadmills and then walked to Starbucks in The Plaza. This was our few walking through the park from our hotel. Very pretty and I have to say even with the chill in the air, I feel Spring coming!!

I hope you are having a great week thus far and wish you an even better beginning to the weekend! And in the words of Ellen, be kind to one another!

The New Dime Store is one of my favorite places!!! So is the cute little botique next door even though I can’t remember the name. Glad you enjoyed KC. Next time you’re in town I can give you a list of some great restaurants in the Brookside area to try. We eat at them a lot. :)

Looks like you had an amazing trip! Love that letter- I don’t have a place for it either, but it’s so neat.

You must have went to Lauren Alexandra, isn’t it just gorgeous -if I ever get preggo, I will be doing some serious shopping there! Brookside has got some cute little shops and my daughter loves going into Stuff, I love their old metal lawn chairs with the doggies painted on them. Glad you had a good visit! Oh, and next time I could give you the names of a couple of restaurants that are downtown that have fabulous BBQ or other cuisine and its just a few minutes drive from the Plaza.
