"Me time" is hard to find as a mother whether you work at home or outside of the home, so I have a program I try to live by every day. Some days are harder than others but this helps me be more productive and all around just feel better about myself.
I do my skincare regimen in the morning and at night. I apply sunscreen, tinted moisturizer, light loose powder, blush, eyeliner, and mascara in the mornings after I shower. I do my hair whether it's simply a top-knot or a quick run with the curling iron. I'm still working on washing and drying my hair at night after Jack goes to bed but that's a work-in-progress. I don't wash my hair every day so that frees up some of my time on off days.
I also schedule hair and nail appointments for "me time":
- Every other week I go for a shellac manicure and once a month a pedicure.
- I get my hair cut/color (to cover the gray) about once every 6-weeks.
- If I'm having a rough week, I'll schedule a blow-out with my stylist. It takes about an hour. For $20, I get an hour of relaxation and someone else to wash and dry my hair. It's a magnificent treat!
We live very close to both of our families. You just never know when someone is going to drop by in the middle of the day. My husband comes home for lunch occasionally and most of the time unexpectedly. Therefore, showering and getting dressed in the morning is very important to me. We go to the gym two mornings a week so I'm in my gym clothes before 8 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Jack takes a nap right when we get home leaving me time to shower and change on those days.
