Nursery Inspiration

I knew from early on in my pregnancy that I didn't want the decor of the nursery to be determined by the sex of the baby. I started searching and browsing nursery images and bookmarking individual items that caught my eye. After a lot of brainstorming, we came up with the idea to design a Jack & Jill Nursery!

Jack & Jill Nursery = A bedroom for baby boys and girls.

It's not a secret that we would like to have more than one child. I want to create this room to be the perfect place for our baby to sleep and grow whether boy or girl! Now that we know Baby H is a boy, I plan to add a few boy-esque items like toys and stuffed animals to the room. These will be things he can take with him to his big boy room one day. I also plan to have a sign made with his name for the door. Therefore this room will not change much from child to child so I've put a lot of thought and work into the design of this room.

I found two pages out of the classic Dick & Jane (we were calling it a Dick & Jane Nursery at first but people's immediate reaction was that I was going to use Dick & Jane fabric. Not so much!) storybook for my color inspiration. I love the cheerfulness of the colors and even more the tone that will allow the room to be warm and calm all while still being fun for our baby boy!

Here's the first stack of fabric swatches for our Jack & Jill Nursery for Baby H! I absolutely adore the different textures and prints. I was in the fabric store for twenty minutes and came out full of ideas and ready to go.

Thankfully my parents are extremely talented and overly generous, they are both working on refinishing a set of furniture for the nursery. It's not baby furniture so it will last a long time. They are doing such a great job!

After numerous testings, we landed on Lemon Balm by Behr for the furniture. I'm in love with it. The crib will be an off-white / cream color. I'll get to that another day!

It's not your typical nursery decor which I have to say is what I love the most about it!

Next Steps?

1. Finish the physical Inspiration Board for the room.

2. Finish cleaning out the room. The third bedroom has been our in-home storage unit until now.

3. Purchase fabrics.

4. Create a production timeline for the bedding.

5. Get swatch packages together for artists for wall art and door hanging.

Oh and yes, Baby H does have a name! A big full name. I hope to share later this week. I ordered his first two monogrammed items on Sunday. I can't wait for them to arrive.

Oh, I love it all! I love the idea of a nursery that will work for all future babies no matter the gender, and your theme so far is perfect!

I love your ideas! I, too, have a gender neutral nursery that just looks like a “kid’s room” instead of a boys’ room or a girl’s room. It’s the way to go!!

I’m excited to hear the updates as you get closer to the arrival of your little one. Congratulations!

What a great plan! It is so easy to get mixed up in the “pinks and blues” when decorating/buying baby equipment, but when you plan to have another it’s so much better to be practical. The different textures/colors of fabrics are beautiful and I can’t wait to see the nursery come together!

I love this! It’s incredibly unique – and while you have chosen fun/colorful fabrics, I love the contrast with the soft, calming paint color. Can’t wait to watch this process!

That is such a great idea! I love that you’re using the Dick & Jane books as inspiration for the nursery! Can’t wait to see the finished room :)

Yay! Glad everything is coming together so well–I can’t wait to hear baby H’s name!

I love what you have picked out!! I am also a fan of a semi neutral nursery but I did find girl bedding that I am in love with and just can’t get it out of my mind, so unlike my original plan if its a girl it will be more of a girl nursery. I can’t wait to see it all come together and to hear your little boys name. :)
