My "I'm turning 30" List

posted by ninahelleny in DAILY DIARY

In less than 57 days, I will turn 30 years old. I really can't believe it. My twenties have been better than I could have ever dreamed of... I've complained about them a lot in the past. I know I've even said, "20s suck" once or twice (or 100 times) but when I look back they were really pretty great! So many milestones. So many precious memories. College, sorority, moving to Chicago, living with my best friends, travels, meeting my husband, getting married and now trying to have a baby. Not too shabby! I sure did cram a whole lot into the 29th year, wouldn't you say?

So anyway. Back to the point of this post. My "I'm turning 30" Wish List. Which is more like my birthday-slash-Christmas list since they are so close together! I will do a more holiday lists in the coming weeks... stay tuned.

When it comes to milestone birthdays, I like to ask for things that I will keep forever. Timeless items. Items that I will keep in my closet, see in the mornings and remember the special day. Things that I will one day show my children and say, "your dad gave me this for my 30th birthday, can you believe I was 30 once?!" I make myself laugh.

#1 on my list - the long-time coveted Hermes Click H Narrow Enamel Bracelet - PM. This is not the first time I've posted about this bracelet. I would love any color with gold but black and orange are tied for #1 choice. Black is more neutral. Orange is Hermes signature color. Tough call. I love both of them equally. Now that my last name officially starts with an "H" I think it's only right for me to own one of these beauties, don't you?

My closet needs these. Shoes are always the main source of stress in the what-am-I-going-to-wear drama that takes place in my - now our - closet. If these (size 35.5) were in there our closet would be a much more pleasant place to be!

My group of girlfriends decided about four years ago that we would give each other the same gift for all of our 30th birthdays. We decided on a David Yurman 5mm cable cuff. So I will be getting one in a surprise color from my BFFs in December! I already own one that matches my mom and sisters. So why am I posting these two bracelets below? I would love a 3rd to stack with the other two for some dimension. I think a classic 7mm or the 7mm buckle would look great with 2 5mm cuffs. David Yurman fits my personality well. I currently wear my blue topaz cuff coupled with my Michele watch on my left hand. I've got a LOT going on on my left arm these days.... so this is my solution to decorating my right arm!

I have an order in with JH for an everyday LV but I love the Eva Clutch by Louis Vuitton. The versatility is outstanding. It makes a great option for when you don't want to lug your giant everyday handbag to dinner with friends. On vacation... cross-body strap for shopping or sightseeing during the day and chain strap for an evening out on the town! The more I look at this bag the more I want it.

Below are a few more items that I might not keep forever but would enjoy equally as much...

I could really use a new fleece and I've had my eyes on this lovely beige one (size small) for awhile now. It looks so cozy. If and when I own this, you will most likely find me wearing it on the couch while watching TV as well as outdoors! Right, Jenna?

I adore this Trudie Herringbone coat by J.Crew. Both colors are gorgeous.

Blue-Eyed Bride introduced me to Kendra Scott once I made the leap into the Big Earrings Club! Below are two pairs of the Danielle Earrings - a HUGE hit with celebrities and lots of bloggers too. My favorite colors are the green & turquoise.

More than the Danielle Earrings, I would really love to add this set to my jewelry collection. Gold hoops & matching bangles by Kendra Scott!

Because I'm a tech-addict, I think I need an [= I just want an] iPad.

Non-visual Wish List:

1. For my husband to clean out the 3rd bedroom so it can be used for it's intended purpose as a comfy-cozy office space with a desk, large computer screen and an oversized chair or small couch for reading.

2. For God to give me strength to go the gym (or exercise daily) so I don't have to continue to sell all of my designer jeans to skinner blog readers ;)

3. For the Furniture Fairy to help us find the right china cabinet so I can remove the 72 boxes of wine glasses and barware from the guest bedroom floor.

*I really wanted a pair of boots and a pair of black revas on this list but I have not found a pair of boots for my liking yet and I have to say the reva selection this season is kind of poor.

What is on your Christmas Wish List this year? Have you already celebrated your 30th birthday? If so, what did you get for your 30th?

Nina, I need your help. I am putting together my holiday wish list at the request of my family, and I need a watch but honestly don’t even know where to start looking for ideas. I’d like the watch to be able to be worn with almost anything. My style is feminine without being over the top frilly; simple, pretty straightforward. Most of my daily wardrobe is made up of Banana Republic and Ann Taylor. Tory Burch for shoes because they are the best for walking in the city (and you turned me on to those). Price point should be affordable, but I still need quality – my family doesn’t really give ultra-extravagant gifts, and I know watches can get crazy price-wise (and those seem to be the only ones that come mind!). Any ideas for me? Online searches leave me overwhelmed. I remember you posted about your watch once, but I can’t find it. Thank you!
    xxox.

Well, you have listed a lot of great items! I hope you get all your heart’s desires!
When my Grandmother passed away I got her engagement ring. Well being that I’m not married, I knew I wouldn’t wear it as is, so I had it reset. My parents gave me the newly set ring for my 30th birthday and it is fabulous! I will always cherish the ring for those 2 reasons! It’s very unique with diamonds and sapphires in a square setting. I hope yours will be as memorable Nina! :)

Not to be a downer, but I’ve heard from several people that the Hermes bracelets chip really easily!

Great list! I bought myself a killer pair of patent black Gucci pumps for my 30th birthday. They are my most beautiful shoes and can make any little black dress instantly fabulous! A big timeless 30th birthday gift is a must!

you cannot live another day without the hermes cuff… with your new H last name, it’s a MUST HAVE! everything else on your list is fabulous as well, fabulous taste, fabulous friend.

love the David Yurman girlfriend gift idea !!! I am also a “gift list” maker. I am closing in on the 3-9 b-day & already making a list for the 4-0 ! At this stage in my life, I am less about “quantity” and more about “quality”…for instance, I would rather get one really awesome gift — or give someone one fabulous item than a pile of crap that means nothing a month later. A pair of Loubs or a LV clutch will stand the test of time.

ps -As an aside, I have the KScott Danielle earrings in black onyx & love them ! Asking for another pair from Santa.

hmm your big sister can maybe afford to get you the fleece. Glam taste for my Glam Girl! I Love it!! 30 is wonderful! I loved my 30s.. YOU are in the best time right now. . savor it xo

I 100% agree that milestone birthday gifts should be timeless. Something you might possibly be able to pass along to a daughter one day for one of her milestones. I hit the 30 milestone this summer and was gifted with diamond earrings, a Tiffany Key for my necklace and a Cartier Love bracelet. Not one to mess around I also treated myself to a fabulous Celine bag that I had been lusting after. I think all of your selections are fantastic and whichever one you end up receiving you will fondly remember for years to come! After all you only turn 30 once and so far I think 30 is pretty fantastic!!

I’m obsessing over the Garrett china cabinet from Pottery Barn; I go back and forth between wanting the black or the red, but I think I’ll go with black because, as I always say, “black is the denim of the home decorating world.”
I met my husband just a few months after I turned 30. He’s still the best birthday present EVER.
Happy Birthday to you (when it gets here)! :)

What a fabulous wishlist! You definitely have to get that Hermes bracelet; now that you have H as an initial it’s a must!
I’m constantly looking to add to my David Yurman bracelets too, I can’t wait to see what you get from your friends! That’s such a great idea that you all agreed on the same gift.

Happy almost 30th to you! Your gift list is great! I love it all, especially the ipad! Thomas bought me one last week and I love it! There are so many fun apps.

I hope that you have a great week!

I would love a great pair of boots.
My 30th birthday has come and gone (a bit ago) but I have a 12th anniversary coming up next month and these would be greatly appreciated.
You have a lot to look forward to because there is just so much more life to come. Enjoy.

You made me laugh out loud with your selling off your jeans to “skinnier” blog readers comment, and you know why! I LOVE your birthday wishlist… may have to steal a few ideas for my own birthday-christmas wish list! :)

  • http://www.dayoldnews.com DayOldNews

Such a fabulous list! My iPad was stolen so that is my #1 request for Xmas. It was one of those things I thought I wanted until I got, then it felt like I NEEDED it. I used it for absolutely everything. I’ve been saving my money for a kitchen remodel which makes me desperate for some new clothes, particularly holiday cocktail/wedding event dresses. I’ll be you are getting excited to decorate your home for the first holiday season!

I love your choices – you have a FABULOUS list! I’m a DY fan too and also have the Danielle earrings in turquoise and they are wonderful… also the Eva that I pondered for a long while and finally bought in Paris two summers ago in monogram. It really is so versatile and the SA showed me how I could put it over the straps of my Neverfull on the outside to carry it that way too… great for travel. I used it just how you said on the rest of the trip: crossbody for sightseeing all day and as a clutch for fancy dinners out at night.

  • Kiks

That’s what I love about you…you are a girl who knows what she likes and exactly what she wants.

  • http://www.pinkjulepabroad.com Ashley

Your list isn’t too far off mine… I’ll be 30 in March… I’m right there with ya girl! I hope you get all of these beauties!!!

I just celebrated my 30th on 7/3, but my belated gift is due 12/28 or whenever our precious 2nd child arrives. I got patio furniture for my 30th from the hubs….way too practical for a “gift” but its definitely an investment and we’ve spent all summer watching our baby play and all this fall sitting on it around the fire, so it’s perfect.
You have a great list going, I just ordered that fleece yesterday(not that it would zip now anyway!) I hope your 30th is great!
